This is the type of restaurant where you go to celebrate, or to reward yourself for a really long or bad day - either way, Sushi Kai will make you smile by the end of the night.
We always try to sit at the sushi bar because after getting to know the sushi chefs and waitresses, they don't just serve you food and drink, they're part of the party! It's like a big happy family and their happiness and love really does show up in the food. (don't kill me for being so flowery)
While their rolls and hot kitchen items are great, this place has a real knack for their fresh seasonal menu. I've tried things here I'd never want to try anywhere else, because I know their seafood is always fresh, sweet, and plump. Some of my favorite dishes here:
-live shrimp is sweet like nothing you've ever had before, and they fry the heads so you can eat it tempura style
-spicy salmon hand roll (chunk salmon, not shredded) is like eating dessert it's so good
-giant clam sashimi
-live scallop with kiwi
-uni
-ankimo
-tempura ice cream (they wrap it in pound cake and tempura fry it to the size of a grapefruit - no joke)
I could just keep going, but might reach a word limit...
My advice is to sit at the sushi bar, talk to the chefs a little, get to know them because they will be your best friends for years to come! (might even slip you some free tasters too!)
Picky About:
I'm mostly picky about food, since I'm a lightweight when it comes to drinks so I don't really drink much. What really grinds my gears: overcooked foods (especially pasta/noodles)
